Politics. The very word makes some folks roll their eyes, others puff out their chest, and plenty of us want to crawl under the nearest blanket and never come out again. In today’s world, it feels like everyone is expected to pick a side, sharpen their pitchfork, and start throwing words like stones. But what if I told you… the Bible has something to say about this? Lets break down some scripture on politics together!
No “Other Side,” Just God’s Side
We like to divide ourselves. Left or right. Red or blue. Donkey or elephant. (Personally, I prefer sheep, since that is what Jesus called us.) But in God’s eyes, there is no “other side.” There are only His children, each one created in His image.
Galatians 3:28 (KJV) reminds us:
“There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus.”
If Paul were writing today, maybe he would have said, “There is neither Democrat nor Republican, there is neither Independent nor Libertarian, for ye are all one in Christ Jesus.”
Wrath is Not a Campaign Strategy
Now, here is the tricky part. Politics today thrives on anger. Rage baiting is practically its own industry. But wrath is not a fruit of the Spirit, and stirring up anger is a sin.
Proverbs 15:1 (KJV) gives us some wisdom:
“A soft answer turneth away wrath: but grievous words stir up anger.”
In other words, stop feeding the comments section like it’s a wild animal. Do not let politicians or social media puppeteers pull you into fighting your brothers and sisters in Christ. A soft answer is more powerful than a sharp tongue.
Rage Baiting is a Sin (and a Waste of Time)
Let’s be real. Some people make a living off trying to make you mad. Outrage gets clicks. Anger keeps you scrolling. But James 1:20 (KJV) tells us:
“For the wrath of man worketh not the righteousness of God.”
Read that again. All that keyboard smashing, all that yelling at the TV, all those debates at the dinner table where Aunt Linda nearly flips the mashed potatoes… none of it produces God’s righteousness.
Loving the “Other Side”
Even if you feel your blood boiling when “the other side” speaks, remember this: those people are not your enemy. They are your brothers and sisters. God loves them just as much as He loves you.
1 John 4:20 (KJV) hits hard here:
“If a man say, I love God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar: for he that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen, how can he love God whom he hath not seen?”
You cannot claim to love God while despising the people He made.
The Bigger Picture
At the end of the day, our hope is not in politicians, policies, or parties. Our hope is in Jesus Christ. Governments will rise and fall. Leaders will disappoint us. But God’s Kingdom never fails.
Philippians 3:20 (KJV) reminds us:
“For our conversation is in heaven; from whence also we look for the Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ.”
That is where our true citizenship lies. Not in red states or blue states, but in the eternal Kingdom of God.
Conclusion
So yes, vote, care, be involved. But do not let politics poison your heart. Do not fall into wrath, rage bait, or division. Instead, remember that every person you meet, no matter their political sticker, is a child of God.
I may not agree with everything my brothers and sisters say, but I will love them anyway. Because love is stronger than hate, peace is stronger than wrath, and God’s Kingdom is bigger than any party line.
So next time politics makes your blood boil, take a deep breath, close your laptop, and maybe pray for your leaders instead of yelling at them. After all, God is still on the throne, and He has the final word.
A Prayer for “The Other Side”
Heavenly Father,
Thank You for reminding me that every person, no matter their political view, is Your child. Lord, help me to see past differences and instead see the image of Christ in them. Fill my heart with love where anger wants to take root. Give me patience where I want to argue, and gentleness where I want to fight.
I pray for those I disagree with. Bless them, guide them, and show them Your truth in love. And Father, remind me that I am not called to win arguments, but to win souls by showing Your grace. May my words and actions bring peace, not division, and may Your light shine through me in all things.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
